Teaming up with ClimatePartner, Watsons Own Brand launched a carbon compensation project that would offset carbon emissions from the chosen seven Sustainable Choices products (see below in this website). To become “ClimatePartner” Certified, the selected Watsons Brand products have been put through 5 steps.

Step 1 – Measure carbon footprint

7 ranges of OB Sustainable Choices products were selected, and their emissions from cradle-to-customer plus end-of-life have been measured.

Step 2 – Set reduction target

After the carbon footprint measurement, carbon reduction targets were set. For this project, we target to compensate 2,208 tons of carbon emissions.

Step 3 – Implement reductions

To meet our targets, we also worked with our product suppliers to implement concrete measures to achieve effective climate action. For example, ensured the products are made from renewable resources or made with recycled packaging.

Step 4 – Climate project

In addition, we supported the Forest Protection in Rimba Raya, Indonesia, which avoid carbon emissions or remove them from the atmosphere. Through reforestation in degraded areas, the forest is restored, carbon stocks are increased, and the overall health of ecosystem is promoted. Furthermore, the natural habitat of endangered Bornean orangutans is preserved as the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve is home to a wide variety of animal and plant species. Step 5 – Communicate Transparently

After all previous 4 steps, our selected OB products are “ClimatePartner Certified” and have been given an individual QR code as a “ClimateParter Certified” label. You can identify the carbon compensated products by the ClimatePartner Certified Labels with a QR code to know more about the carbon compensation project supported.

Watsons commits to compensating the remaining greenhouse gas emissions of the selected Own Brand products each year, for as long as the products are sold in our offline plus online retail stores in Asia, with an investment in nature-based solutions. Every purchase made by customers for these selected Own Brand products will contribute towards greenhouse gas emissions compensation by Watsons!
